Sorry for the delay, folks! I wasn’t able to post last Saturday, so we’re lumping two days into this post. (That just means more cats!) I hope you all enjoyed the first installment of my Caturday countdown of the Disney cats. Here are the next six cats in the countdown--we’ll be breaking into the top 20 today.
Also, I guess I should clarify--all of the cats on my list are from their original films, not the live-action remakes of the films! Some of them would’ve ranked differently and it would’ve been a confusing time for us all, so I’m only discussing the cats in the context of the original films they appeared in.
So as I mentioned last week, I was never really a Jungle Book kid growing up. Bagheera’s really chill and nice, but...I don’t know him. I’d probably hang out with him if asked, though, seeing as he doesn’t try to kill humans and all that jazz.
Okay here’s the thing, friends. I’m sick--so sick--of cats always being the bad guys in movies. Cats mind their own business. They don’t have time to be antagonists to LITERAL HUMANS because they have their own agendas, okay? Also, why does Cinderella let herself get bullied by a cat? I digress. Lucifer deserved better but he’s stuck being a villain so he’s stuck towards the bottom of my list.
19. The cat band from The Aristocats
On my notes for this post I just wrote “jammin cats through and through” for these guys, and I think that kind of sums them up perfectly. They quite literally rock, because their song is rad. Yes, Aristocats. I do in fact want to be a cat because a cat's the only cat who knows where it's at. Also, I’ll obviously have more Aristocats characters on this list because it’s a cat countdown, but I’d just like to take a moment right now to formally thank the film for making cats the heroes for once. Good on you.
She’s not a huge part of The Lion King, but she’s still pretty rad. She was always a good mom to Simba, and she was loyal to Mufasa and her pride. She didn’t want anything to do with Scar and honestly? The pride should’ve made her their official leader after Mufasa died. (I don’t care if that’s not how it works in real life--this is an animated movie about talking animals.)
I’m sorry he’s so low on my list. I know. I was a HUGE fan of Winnie the Pooh growing up (alright...I still am), but Pooh and Piglet were always my faves. I never disliked Tigger but he wasn’t on the top of my list either. He’s very cute and very fun, though. Also, his song is delightful. 12/10, would sing along again. Tiggers are indeed wonderful things!
16. Cheshire Cat
Once again, sorry he’s not higher on the list. I love his color scheme--I am the queen of pink and purple--and I love that he’s voiced by Winnie the Pooh. I’ll admit, if I were in Alice’s position and he pulled the same stuff with me as he does with her, I’d be a little frustrated. But he’s still a cat, so I’d probably get over it. Also, I love all the merchandise they have for him at the parks. He may not be my favorite Disney cat, but he’s still a Disney cat who’s getting love and that’s pretty cool!
Well, that’s our list for this week! I’ll see you all next Saturday (I promise this time) for the next three cats on the list!
